Levonorgestrel 1.5mg Tablet

Levonorgestrel 1.5mg is an emergency contraceptive pill used to help prevent pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse or contraceptive failure (such as a split condom or missed pill). It is often referred to as the “morning after pill”, although it can be taken at any time within the recommended window.

Levonorgestrel works mainly by delaying or preventing ovulation. It will not work if ovulation has already occurred and does not terminate an existing pregnancy. Emergency contraception should not be used as a regular method of contraception.

How to take:

• Take one tablet (1.5mg) as soon as possible after unprotected sex.

• It should be taken within 72 hours (3 days) for best effectiveness.

• The earlier it is taken, the more effective it is.

• If you vomit within 3 hours of taking the tablet, seek advice as another dose may be needed.

Precautions:

• Not suitable if you are allergic to levonorgestrel or any of the ingredients.

• Effectiveness may be reduced if you are taking certain medicines, including enzyme-inducing drugs (e.g. some epilepsy treatments, rifampicin, or St John’s Wort).

• Speak to a pharmacist or doctor before use if you have severe liver disease or conditions affecting absorption (e.g. Crohn’s disease).

• Levonorgestrel does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

• Your next period may be earlier or later than expected; if it is more than 5 days late, unusually light/heavy, or you have symptoms of pregnancy, take a pregnancy test.
