Omeprazole 20mg Capsules

Omeprazole 20mg capsules are used to reduce excess stomach acid and relieve symptoms of acid reflux, heartburn, indigestion, and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD). They are also used to treat and prevent stomach and duodenal ulcers, including those associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Omeprazole belongs to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach, allowing the oesophagus and stomach lining to heal and helping to prevent further irritation.

How to take:

• Adults: take one 20mg capsule once daily, preferably in the morning.

• Swallow the capsule whole with water; do not crush or chew.

• If symptoms persist after 14 days, seek advice from a pharmacist or doctor.

• Not recommended for children unless prescribed by a doctor.

Precautions:

• Do not take if you are allergic to omeprazole or other proton pump inhibitors.

• Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you have severe liver problems, unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, difficulty swallowing, or black stools.

• Long-term use may be associated with vitamin and mineral deficiencies (such as magnesium or vitamin B12).

• Omeprazole may interact with certain medicines, including clopidogrel, warfarin, phenytoin, and digoxin.

• Not intended for immediate relief of heartburn — it may take 2–3 days to feel full benefit.
