Trimethoprim 200mg tablets (Pack of 28)

Trimethoprim 200mg tablets are an antibiotic used to treat and prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) such as cystitis. They work by stopping the growth of bacteria that cause infection in the urinary tract.

Trimethoprim belongs to a group of medicines known as antibacterials. It works by blocking the production of folic acid in bacteria, which is essential for their growth and survival. This helps clear the infection and reduce symptoms such as pain, burning, and the urge to urinate frequently.

How to take:

•For treatment of acute UTI in adults: the usual dose is 200mg twice daily for 3–14 days depending on the severity of the infection.

•For prevention of recurrent UTIs: a lower dose (often 100mg at night) may be prescribed.

•Always take exactly as directed by your prescriber.

•Swallow tablets with water, and complete the full course even if you feel better.

Precautions:

•Do not take if you are allergic to trimethoprim or any of the ingredients.

•Not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, unless specifically prescribed.

•Speak to your doctor before use if you have kidney disease, folate deficiency, blood disorders, or are taking medicines such as methotrexate or other antibiotics.

•Possible side effects include nausea, rash, or itching. Seek medical advice immediately if you develop a severe skin reaction, sore throat, fever, or unusual bruising.
