Ulipristral 30mg Tablet

Ulipristal acetate 30mg is an emergency contraceptive tablet used to help prevent pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse or contraceptive failure (such as a missed pill or split condom). It is effective when taken up to 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex.

Ulipristal works by delaying ovulation, even when ovulation is close to occurring. It is more effective than levonorgestrel later in the menstrual cycle and does not terminate an existing pregnancy. Emergency contraception should not be used as a regular method of contraception.

How to take:

• Take one tablet (30mg) as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse.

• It can be taken up to 5 days (120 hours) after sex, but effectiveness is highest the sooner it is taken.

• Swallow the tablet whole with water.

• If you vomit within 3 hours of taking the tablet, seek medical advice as another dose may be required.

Precautions:

• Do not take if you are allergic to ulipristal acetate or any of the ingredients.

• Effectiveness may be reduced if you are taking enzyme-inducing medicines (e.g. certain epilepsy treatments, rifampicin, or St John’s Wort).

• Speak to a pharmacist or doctor before use if you have severe asthma treated with oral steroids or liver disease.

• Ulipristal may affect ongoing hormonal contraception — use barrier contraception until your next period.

• Does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

• If your period is more than 7 days late, unusually light or heavy, or you have symptoms of pregnancy, take a pregnancy test and seek advice.
